Worth Thomas White known to his family as "WT," transitioned peacefully in his home with his family by his side in Louisa, Virginia, on October 29, 2022, at the age of 94. Worth was born on October 7, 1928, in Liberty, North Carolina, to the Rev. Weldon White and Bessie Fox White, the sixth child of ten children.
Worth's early childhood taught him to be creative and work hard to get things done, something that stuck with him throughout his life. In 1950, at the age of 21, he was drafted into the military, where he fought in the Korean War as a gunner for the 72nd Tank Battalion. He served in the army from 1950 - 1952, earning the rank of First Class Private.
Upon being honorably discharged, Worth moved to Washington, DC, purchased a home, and worked as a maintenance supervisor for the National Institute of Health. He loved to visit his family that was also living in Washington, DC. While living in DC, he met the love of his life, Chyann Harris. In 1986, from this union, they were blessed with a son, Wantrell White, whom he loved dearly and who was his pride and joy.
In 1992, he moved to his wife's hometown of Louisa, Virginia, where he supervised and helped hand-build their home. He and his family moved there in search of a more rural area resembling where he grew up. In Louisa, he returned to his roots and became somewhat of a farmer. He raised cows, goats, and chickens; and enjoyed gardening. He loved being on his tractor and working on projects around the house with his brothers-in-law.
Worth was all about getting things done. He would say, "there's more than one way to skin a cat", and he didn't believe in putting off what you could do today until tomorrow. His work ethic allowed him to do well as a businessman. He owned and operated an HVAC company and several rental properties. He was a remarkably strong-willed person who didn't show sadness even in the darkest times. Instead, he remained a pillar of strength and calm when things seemed to spiral out of control.
As a young adult, he loved singing, dancing, and playing the saxophone. He loved watching his favorite sports, basketball, football, tennis, and golf. He loved children; and believed that all children deserved a chance in the world and parented unconditionally. His eyes would widen and light up whenever he saw his grandchildren Jaylen and Lauren; he loved them more than anything.
Worth is preceded in death by his father, Rev. Thomas Weldon White, his mother; Bessie Fox White, his sister Hortense Scott (Walter); his brother Leroy White (Patricia); his sister Verene Butler Hughes (William); his brother Lanier White (Elizabeth); his sister Pearl Lucas (Douglas); and his sister Ruth Murry White (Eric).
Worth leaves to cherish his memories his devoted wife Chyann Harris, his son Wantrell White (Lakecia), his two grandchildren Jaylen Hembry and Lauren White, his brothers Gordon White (Mary Lou), Lewis White (Elma Ruth) Theodore M. White, and his loving Sister-in-law and caregiver of many years, Bertha Rush, along with a host of nieces, nephews, and other relatives.
