Willie Charlie Smith, 72, passed away suddenly on Tuesday, May 29, at his home in Louisa Virginia.
He was born on May 7, 1946 in Greensboro NC.
Willie was a devoted loving father and grandfather. He was born the oldest of 12 children. He received his early education in North Carolina and graduated from A. G. Richardson High School class of 1965. He served four years in the United States Navy and was honorably discharged in 1969.
He was employed by Charlottesville City Schools and later retired from Martha Jefferson Hospital.
He married Belinda Miller in 1975. To this union there were two children Clarissa and Willie Smith.
Willie was preceded in death by his mother Coleen Smith and father Julius Brooks, sister Carol Edith Smith, brother Reginal Earl Smith, sister Gail Willet Smith.
Willie leaves to cherish his memory his longtime friend and former wife Belinda Carter, daughter Clarissa (Harold) Folley of Charlottesville Virginia, son Willie Smith of Charlottesville, Virginia, six grandchildren Saquandreanna Wingfield, Semaje Smith, Sadarius Folley, Sabias Folley, Satatianna Folley, Salayah Ashby Smith, and three great grandkids. His memory will also be cherish by his five brothers, Sylvester (Frances) Smith, Louisa, Va.;Ernest (Beulah) Smith, Radcliffe, Ky.; Bruce Wayne(Stephanie) Smith, Queens, NY; Michael Griffin; Jacksonville, NC; Larry Jerome (Latonya) Griffin, Greensboro, NC; three sisters Frances Pennix, East Orange, NJ; Antonia Rita Smith, Greensboro, NC; Greta Humphrey, St. Paul, MN, and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
Funeral services will be held 11 a.m. Thursday, June 7, 2018 at Mount Zion First African Baptist Church
105 Lankford Avenue Charlottesville, VA 22902 with the Rev. Dr. Alvin Edwards officiating. Interment with military honors will be on Friday, June 8, 2018 at Culpeper National Cemetery 305 US Ave Culpeper, Virginia 22701.
