Willie Norman Grooms, 71, of Louisa, Virginia departed this life on Saturday, February 13, 2021 at the University of Virginia Medical Center. He was born in Louisa County on February 5, 1950, to Mabel Grooms Porter and Norman Brown.

He was preceded in death by his mother, Mabel Grooms Porter; his brother, Johnnie Grooms; and five sisters: Sarah Brice, Doris McGlen, Gladys Miles, Jeannette Hawthorne, and Yvonne Sawyer. Willie attended Louisa County Schools, and was employed in the building supply industry for over 50 years, retiring as Manager of Delivery Operations from Builders FirstChoice. He accepted Christ at an early age, and was a dedicated member of Springfield Baptist Church. Willie enjoyed singing, and was a faithful member of the Men's Choir.

Willie was not a man of many words but he made his presence known through his hard work and devotion to his family. As a gentle giant, his smile and laughter were infectious. He was known to be most boisterous on Sunday nights when watching his favorite football team, the Washington. He was a self-taught man of many talents, such fixing cars, construction and cooking; and he was always willing to lend a helping hand. As a family-oriented man, he enjoyed celebrating holidays, birthdays, milestones and the achievements of his children, grandchildren and great grandson. Willie was a wonderful husband and his love and respect for his wife never went unrecognized. Their union began at a young age and their love stood the test of time. As a man of many roles, he will be remembered as calm, composed, and caring.

He is survived by his lifelong soulmate and loving wife of 54 years, Linda Grooms of Louisa, Virginia; three daughters, Beverly Grooms of Charlottesville, VA; Lori Palmer of McKinney, Texas; and Contina Grooms Carter (Dante) of Charlottesville, VA; and one son Lance Mills (Helen) of Louisa, VA; one sister, Frances Porter of Charlottesville, VA; five granddaughters, Brittany Grooms, Ashley Grooms, Erin Palmer, Jaden Mills, and Ariel Palmer; two grandsons, Jehki Grooms and Lance Mills; and one great grandson, Caden Cochran, all of whom he treasured dearly. He also leaves behind a large extended family which includes nieces, nephews, cousins, great-nieces and nephews, and his in-laws. Through his family his love and spirit will continue to live on.
