Willie Ross Cantrell, Jr, transitioned to be joined with his Heavenly Father on August 1, 2022, at The University of Virginia Medical Center, Charlottesville, VA. He was born on January 10, 1961, to the late Clara Naomi Bolden Cantrell and Willie Ross Cantrell in Buffalo, NY.
At an early age, Willie accepted Christ into his life and lived to be a faithful servant to God and his family. After graduating in 1982 from Riverside High School in Buffalo, NY, Willie served in the United States Army. While believing he could be a better servant, Willie became a police officer with the Buffalo, NY Police Department. In 1988, he obtained a Bachelor of Science degree in Forensics from Syracuse University.
Transportation Safety was his "joy." Being employed with The Intertrans Carrier Corporation in Gordonsville, VA as a Safety Director allowed Willie to share his knowledge of transportation safety. In addition, he mentored and supported his dedicated drivers. During this time, Willie, his drivers, and the Company received several accolades from the Virginia Trucking Association.
Willie enjoyed outdoor activities, especially bow hunting and fishing. He often talked about his hunting adventures in Southwest Virginia. He will also always be remembered for his love of cooking. Willie's talent on the grill during the Thanksgiving holidays will always hold a special place in the hearts of his family and friends.
Willie will continue to shine and exude love and cherished memories through his wife of eight years, Valerie Brown Cantrell; a sister, Wendy Cantrell; one son, Willie Cantrell; sisters-in-law, Juanita Brown Leatherberry (Daniel), Ella Brown Wright; Nancy Brown Smith (Garland) and Yvonne Jones Brown; brothers-in-law, Dr. Charles E. Brown, Russell H. Brown (Marita), Joseph L. Brown and Roderick W. Brown, along with a host of nieces, nephews, relatives, and friends. He was preceded in death by one brother-in-law, Warren G.H. Brown Jr. and one sister-n-law, Sadie Banks Brown.
May Willie continue to find peace while he rests. The family wishes to thank each and everyone who visited, offered prayers, and words of comfort to Willie.
