Deacon William J. Harris departed this life for his eternal home on Saturday, November 27, 2010. He was born on July 24, 1950. His early childhood education was received at Mt. Garland Elementary School in Buckner, VA. His secondary education was received at Louisa County High School. He accepted Christ at an early age and joined St. Thomas Baptist Church. He served as a Trustee and at the age of twenty was ordained a Deacon at St. Thomas Baptist Church and has served faithfully in that capacity for the last 40 years.
Deacon Harris was employed with Virginia Electric Power Company in his early years and went on to work with Rappahannock Security and was currently employed with the Louisa County School system.
Deacon Harris was a humble and dedicated servant who dedicated his life to serving others. He will be most remembered for his warm smile, kind heart and his tireless efforts to help people in any way that he could. He gave of himself to others in a most "selfless way".
Deacon Harris loved to play the piano and sing the Lords praise. His musical talent and gift will be missed by all.
Celebrating the memory of his life and those who will be most deprived of the warmth of his spirit and his strength of character are his devoted sister, Marie Moody; one niece, Cheree Moody; one nephew, Chester Moody Jr.; two devoted great-nieces, Zikiyaa and Zamiyaa Moody and a host of cousins and friends both far and near.
Deacon Harris also leaves to cherish his memory two devoted friends who were deeply touched by his kindness: Gloria Coleman and Ms. Lucille Moody.
Funeral services will be held 1 p.m. Saturday, December 4, 2010 at Mt. Hope Baptist Church 5502 Paynes Mill Road Bumpass, VA 23024 with Rev. Sharon Roberts. Interment will follow in the Harris Family cemetery.
