Wesley Russell Johnson, Jr., affectionately known as "Noot", passed away at Sentara Martha Jefferson Hospital in Charlottesville, VA on October 25, 2022. Wesley was born on December 27, 1952 in Beaverdam, VA to parents Wesley Russell Johnson, Sr. and Pearline Elnora (Johnson) Graves. He was the third child of seven children.
Wesley attended Mt. Garland Elementary and Louisa County Public Schools. Wesley joined Mt. Garland Baptist Church at an early age, serving on the usher board as a young man.
Wesley was skilled and held occupations in masonry, mechanics, and fishing. Wesley's career highlights included working at sawmills and the North Anna Power Plant in the Bumpass-area; and working on a fishing boat on the Bering Sea in Alaska.
Wesley loved his family and his friends. He had an infectious laugh; when telling a story or joke, he would often become so overwhelmed with laughter that he could barely conclude the story so that others could laugh, too. Wesley loved to fish and hunt. He was an excellent cook and would often share his entrees with neighbors. Though Wesley battled illnesses for some time, he always kept his faith and never complained. His favorite quote was "Praise God".
Wesley was preceded in death by his father, Wesley Johnson, Sr.; stepfather, James Alvin Graves; devoted sister, Mary "Boola" Graves, whom he missed dearly and was a caregiver to him before God called her home in January 2022; two brothers, Wallace Graves and Wendell Mallory; three brothers-in-law, Curtis McDaniel, Craig Payne and Zebedee Tucker.
Wesley leaves to cherish his memory a devoted friend and caregiver, Jackie Johnson Thornton; daughters Tynise Horton and Leticia Horton Davis (Van); four grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; mother, Pearline Graves; two sisters, Juanita Tucker and Louise McDaniel; one brother, James Mallory; three nieces, Niki Brinkley (Greg), Dannita Trice, and Jodell Mallory-Thornton (Deon); three nephews Andre Payne (Michelle), DeJuan Tucker and Jawan Mallory; three aunts, Ida Belle Johnson, Viola Johnson, and Elizabeth Robinson; five great-nephews; four great-nieces; a devoted cousin, Elmer Keys; host of extended family and friends.
Funeral services will be held 11 a.m., Saturday, November 5, 2022 at Mt. Garland Baptist Church, 4000 Buckner Road, Bumpass, VA 23024. Interment will follow in the cemetery at Mt. Garland.
