Walter Raines, 87, of, Mineral,VA rejoined the Lord on Wednesday, June 18, 2014, at his home. Walter was born on February 22, 1927, in Athens Georgia. He was the son of the late Daisy Hodges, and George Raines of Athens Georgia.

He is preceded in death by his wife, Asterline Raines; his sisters, Nellie Freeman, Hattie Watson, and Georgia Edwards; brothers, Willie Raines, JT Raines and Ned Raines.

Walter was a member of Laurel Hill Baptist Church in Mineral, Virginia where he served as a Trustee and member of the Men's Choir.

He is survived by his four children, Edward Dabney, Jeffery Raines, Debora Raines-Johnson and Brenda Byrd; five siblings, Ruby Stroud, Mozelle Freeman, Lula Mae Madden, Geneva Forney, and Jerry Jennings; four sisters-in-law, Nevada Davis, Alice Daniels, Candida Johnson and Ruth Jones; one brother-in-law, Dea. Jamie Daniels; one daughter in-law, Jane Dabney; one son-in-law, Raymond Byrd; fourteen grandchildren, seventeen great grandchildren, one great great-granddaughter and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and close friends.

Funeral services will be held at noon Friday, June 27, 2014 at Laurel Hill Baptist Church with Rev. Barry Carpenter officiating. Interment will follow in the Johnson Family Cemetery.
