Virginia Elizabeth Henson Garvin
was one of ten children born to the late Mr. & Mrs. Edward Henson on October 28, 1938 in Louisa, VA. After graduating from HG Richardson High School, she moved from her hometown to start a life in Brooklyn, NY.
Virginia was a hard worker and held two jobs throughout her entire career. She began by working in the school system, later moving to Ideal Factory and Jacob Javitz Convention Center until she retired. In her pastime, Virginia enjoyed crafting bags, table mats, jewelry and much more, which turned into a lucrative side business her entire life. In 2018, Virginia moved back to Louisa, VA. This is where she was called home peacefully.
Virginia was preceded in death by her husband Willie Jay Garvin; children Rochelle Bridget Moore (Kelly), Colette Garvin, and Dk'Qwan Garvin Sr.; great granddaughter A'keera Rayn Davis; siblings Edward Henson Jr., Doris Mae, Earl, Ruth, Leandra, Blankie, Shurley Ann and Yvonne Henson.
She is survived by her daughter Valerie Garvin Cosby (Glen), daughter-in-law Shaniqua Garvin; 18 grandchildren, which include those whom she helped raise: Aja Kinara Cosby, Sierra Janelle Davis (A'keem), Glenda Ashlyn Cosby, Cora Lene Cosby, Glen Ashford Cosby Jr., Dk'Qwan Garvin Jr., Kenya Bridgete Harris, Erwin Phillip Harris Jr. (Brittany), and Tahjir Rain Harris; 8 great-grandchildren; her sister Barbara Henson; nieces, nephews and a host of loving family and friends.
