Our mother, Virginia Ann Harris Brown; affectionately known to most as Boo, Mom Boo or Granny Boo;, received her heavenly wings on Wednesday, September 7, 2022. Virginia was born in Louisa ,VA on October 26, 1939 to the late James Winston and Laura Harris. She was also proceeded in death by her two sisters Elizabeth Johnson and Mary Harris; two brothers Richard and Frank Harris; and a great-granddaughter, D'Monet Anderson.
At an early age, Virginia joined Rising Sun Baptist Church of Mineral, VA and then later moved her membership to First Baptist Church of Louisa, VA. She was a faithful member where she has served on the Senior Choir, Pastor's Aide, Missionary Ministry, Usher Board Ministry and Children's Church Ministry. She was also a member of The Sisters in Christ Ministry. Virginia loved her Lord. Her favorite scripture was Psalms 23 and one of her favorite songs was Precious Lord Take My Hand".
Virginia loved her family and being around them. Christmas was one of her favorite times of the year. Her house, all decorated, was the place to be because everyone, young and old had a gift under the Christmas tree that came with lots of love. Before her health declined, she loved to take care of her flowers or sit on her porch and just enjoy the outside while playing with the neighborhood cat. She enjoyed going to gatherings at her children's homes, and they always made her feel like the queen that she was. She also enjoyed traveling (she has been to more places than we can name) and she enjoyed going shopping with her daughter Sheila. Have you heard the saying "shop until you drop"?
Virginia received her early education from the Louisa Training School. She worked various jobs including working at Roses Discount Store. While working at Roses, she attended CATEC school to obtain her CNA license, which she received in 1998. In 2005, she retired from Roses after 21 years of service. After retiring she worked at Louisa Health and Rehab as a CNA along with several Home Health Care agencies until her health declined in 2021.
On September 8, 1956, she was joined in holy matrimony to Sherman (Honey) Brown, Jr who proceeded her in death. Finally, after forty years our parents are reunited. Leaving to cherish her memories are four loving daughters: Sheila Dabney (Calvin), June Anderson (Donald), Jayne Ragland (Larry), and Virginia Leabough (Edward); two loving sons: Sherman (Sonny) Brown III (Mary) and Joseph (Pete) Brown (Cecilia); twenty grandchildren: Tory Mitchell (Erin), Derrick Gibson (Sachiko), LaTanya (Tan) Anderson (Christopher), Travis Mitchell (Shawn), Alicia (Nikki) Williams (George), Quanquita (Kiki) Scott, Ebony Quarles (Bryant), Donald (DeeDee) Anderson (LaToya), Justin Brown (Jessica), Courtney Cook, Janeé Walker (Quentin), Brandon Brown (Britteny), Jason Brown (Leela), Devin Jackson (Stacy), Edward Leabough Jr, Kamden Leabough ( Sharane), Brittany Harrison, Lamar Ragland, Larry Ragland Jr, (Anecia) and Chaminique Ray ( Blake) ; thirty seven great-grandchildren; four great, great-grandchildren; loving sister, Christine Standard; three sisters-in-law: Nancy Harris, Thelma Henson, and Janet Shepperson; honorary brother: Pastor Mark Brown (Dorothy); brother-in-law: Joseph D.
