VIRGIE MAE (POINDEXTER) SHELTON (78) left to be with our Lord on Friday, October 22, 2021, at the Henrico Doctor's Hospital, in Richmond, Virginia. Virgie was born May 25, 1943, to the late Mack and late Inez (Scott) Poindexter originally, of Kents Store, Virginia. She is preceded in death by her late husband, Clarence "Leroy" Shelton, and two brothers: Curtis Odell Poindexter, Sr., and Clifton Jerome Poindexter, Sr.; one sister-n-law, Ramona Dell (Harris) Poindexter, and a brother-in-law, Percy Raymond Haden.

Virgie's education began in the Hollywood School in Kents Store, Virginia, and SC Abrams High School in Palmyra, Virginia. She had several jobs. She was employed by National Linen, Town & Country Boutique, and the Mount Vernon Hotel.; all were in Charlottesville, Virginia. She was also employed by the Fluvanna County Social Services caring for children of single mothers or for families that simply needed a good babysitter.

At the age of 26, Virgie joined the Galilee Baptist Church, Kents Store, Virginia and later singing in the Gospel Choir, and she never looked back. She knew she had a talent to sing from an early age, a gift from God. And, she intended to use it praising God whenever or wherever she had the opportunity. As her faith in the Lord grew stronger, she later moved her membership and joined the Evergreen Bible Way Church family in Louisa, Virginia. Her faith never wavered. She was a "born-again" believer and remained faithful using her God-given talent praising God with the Inspirational Voices. Later a family name group was formed called The Poindexter Singers; the trio sang acappella. Invitations to sing in area and surrounding churches are too many to mention. Their singing engagements increased and kept them busy traveling up and down the east coast and journeyed westward singing in West Virginia and Ohio glorifying God through song.

Virgie loved the Holy Ghost. Simply saying the word "Holy Ghost" gave her great joy. She would often say that if God left her in charge to pass out the Holy Ghost, she would pass it out making sure everyone had it! She really loved the Lord and boldly proclaimed of his goodness until her death.

Virgie leaves to cherish precious memories, her sons: Elmoe Valentino, of Kents Store, Virginia and Gwendolyn Shelton of Waynesboro, Virginia, Antonio Sr. "Van" (Janice) Shelton of Bremo Bluff, Virginia; one brother, Mack Poindexter, Jr. of Trevilians; three sisters, Della "Maxine" (Leonard) Griffin of Petersburg, VA, Priscilla (Min. Lawrence) Henson of Kents Store, VA and Lucille (Lawrence) Randolph of Charlottesville, VA; one sister-n-law, Edna Poindexter of Troy, VA; seven grandchildren, Kendra (Garren) Charles of Fork Union, Virginia, Kayla (Zack) McMullen of Madison, Virginia, Chelsea Shelton of Waynesboro, Virginia, Shontey Williams of Wilmington, Virginia, Jessica Gibson of Waynesboro, Virginia, Antonio Shelton, Jr., and Diamond Shelton, of Durham, North Carolina; eight great-grandchildren,  Brayden Charles, Haleigh Charles, Blessing Williams, Angel Williams, Julius Shelton, Yesinia Gibson, Jaden Gibson, Yasmine Gibson and a host of cousins, relatives, and friends.
