Vernice (Vernon) L. Johnson, nicknamed, "Doc",67, slipped quietly away from life to be with the Lord on Wednesday, February 15, 2012. Doc was born on April 4, 1944 in Louisa County, Virginia, to the late George L. Johnson and Ida A. McGhee Johnson.

At an early age, he joined Foster Creek Baptist Church. He attended Louisa County Public Schools and later moved to Tarrytown, New York for a few years. He then returned back to his roots in Louisa County, Virginia and resided at his home place. Vernon was a very care-free person that would make you laugh at some of the conversations that he would talk about.

In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his youngest brother, Alex T. Johnson and a nephew, Marvin L. Johnson.

He leaves to cherish his memory, three brothers, Lawrence C. Johnson (Kathryn), George H. Johnson (Lucille), and Percy Bishop (Mary). He is also survived by four nieces, a devoted nephew, Henry L. Johnson; four great nephews, two great-great nieces, and two great-great nephews; a special cousin, Timmie Johnson and other relatives and friends.

Funeral services will be held 2 p.m. Sunday, February 19, 2012 at Foster Creek Baptist Church with the Rev. Michael R. Crawley, officiating. Interment will follow in the Johnson Family Cemetery.
