Our beloved, Tywanda Gail Sawyer Carter, of Washington, D.C., formerly of Louisa County, VA, entered eternal rest on Tuesday, June 14, 2022, at MedStar Washington Hospital Center in Washington, D.C. She was born December 26, 1967, in Charlottesville, VA, to the late Barbara Moore Sawyer and James Edward Sawyer.
Tywanda attended Louisa County Public Schools. At an early age, she joined Rising Sun Baptist Church in Mineral, VA. After graduating from high school, she moved to Washington, D. C.
Tywanda loved having a good time and listening to go-go and reggae music. She was the life of the party. She also loved her family and her friends, and they loved her. She enjoyed fixing her family and friends' hair, which led her to attend cosmetology school and to become a licensed cosmetologist. This was her career until she began to fall ill.
She leaves to mourn, two sons, Marco Carter of Washington, D. C. and Byron Sawyer Carter of Richmond, VA; two granddaughters, Storme Carter and Reign Carter of Washington, DC; five aunts, Emma Moore Moody (Charles) of Port Tobacco, MD, Teresa Moore Courtney (Melvin) of King George, VA, Sandra Moore Sawyer (Leroy) of Lanham, MD, Jacqueline Moore, of Akron, OH, Gerleen Shelton Sawyer, of Mineral, VA., two bonus aunts - Eunice Lewis (Ron) of Clinton, MD, and Delores Thompson, of King George, VA; five uncles, Michael Moore, of Waynesboro, VA, Alvin Moore (Janice) of Mineral, VA, Joseph Sawyer (Louise), of Fort Washington, MD, Lynwood Sawyer, of Spotsylvania, VA, and a host of other relatives and friends.
Tywanda will be truly missed by all who knew her. The family wishes to express their sincere appreciation and love to all who have already reached out to them.
A celebration of life memorial service will be held 2 p.m. Sunday, July 24, 2022 at Rising Sun Baptist Church 6829 Fredericks Hall Road Mineral, Virginia 23117.
