A good man obtains favor of the Lord. Proverbs 12:2

Thomas Linwood Yancey entered this world on May 6,1957. He was one of twelve children born to Robert and Lucille Yancey. Tommy, as he was called by all who knew and loved him, lived a full and happy life for 64 years. He was very active in the sports arena and kept busy with work and his family. His life was unexpectedly interrupted by a relentless illness and despite excellent medical care, he lost his battle to cancer.

Even though he lost the battle, he won the war. He wanted very much to return home and after a lengthy hospital stay, God blessed him to enter the doors of the home he shared with his wife and children for the last time. On December 22, 2021, in the presence of his family, the Lord sent an angel to close his eyes forever. His passing was much the same as his living, quiet and with dignity.

Tommy grew up in the Rising Sun community and became a member of Rising Sun Baptist Church as a young child. Later in his adult life, he attended Pleasant Plain Baptist Church and held dual membership within the two churches. He attended Louisa County Public Schools and graduated from Louisa High School in 1977. It was during his high school years that he met his wife. Tommy and Lori dated for many years, getting to know each other and eventually, planning a future together. Lori left for college and Tommy worked and waited until she returned to Louisa County. He supported Lori's educational endeavors and worked tirelessly to provide for her and the children. He was an exceptionally devoted husband and father. There was nothing that meant more to Tommy than his family.

Tommy and Lori were married on August 23,1986 and began building their lives. During their 35 years as a close and loving couple, they became parents to five children. Lori nicknamed Tommy and the children 'TL and Crew'. Each child put a sparkle in Tommy's eyes and even though the sparkle has been dimmed, it continues to shine in the precious memories that he left in their hearts.

Tommy was also the brother that everyone wishes they had. He was supportive, concerned and always wished success and happiness for his brothers and sisters. Most of all, he loved them unconditionally.

Tommy's work ethic was evident each day during his employment with Dickinson Brothers Lumber Company, Shockey Precast Group and at the onset of his illness, Concrete Pipe and Precast in Ashland, VA. He also was an active member of Piedmont Officials USSSA Softball Association.

Although Tommy's passing has left his family heart broken, the love and kindness that he left with them will bring them comfort and give them peace forever. Remembering and missing him are his wife, Lori and children, Amber, Thomas, Jr., Jordan, Cooper and Logan, his beloved granddaughter, Juliyah Monroe Yancey, his siblings, Robert N. Yancey, Jr. (Joyce), Griffent Yancey (Joy), Fannie Shelton, Lucille Shelton, Shirley Seay (Randy), Carrie Yancey, Christine Yancey, and Gaile Yancey-Shelton (Dennis) and his aunts, Bertha Davis Houchens and Alberta Houchens. A large circle of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends are also left to honor Tommy's memory.
Tommy was predeceased by his grandparents, Jack and Mary Bullock Yancey and Eugene and Mary Elizabeth Houchens, parents, Robert N. and Lucille Houchens Yancey, brothers Anthony M. Yancey, Charles Houchens, and Rev. Joseph 'Jack' Yancey, father-in-law, Deacon Leroy Quarles, and brother-in-law, George R. Shelton.
