Thomas "Tom" Eugene Burruss peacefully departed this life on June 3, 2011. He was born March 4, 1936 in Louisa County, Virginia to the late Russell and Viola Burruss. In addition to his parents, he was also preceded in death by four sisters and three brothers: Sylvia Smith, Juanita Hayden, Thelma Burruss, Lola "Jean" Shelton, George "Sam", Kenneth, and Russell Burruss.
At an early age, Tom became a member of Foster Creek Baptist Church. He received his education in the Louisa County School System. He was employed for many years with Poore Lumber Company and later became Self-Employed with his own sawmill business. His most recent hobby and passion was working on and repairing all types of small engines.
He leaves to cherish his memories, a devoted wife of 52 years, Pearl D. Burruss and to this union six children were born: four sons, Carl (Bertha) of Louisa, VA, Ernest (Margaret) of Harrisonburg, VA, Thomas L. Burruss of Orange, VA and Christopher (Cathy) Burruss of Louisa, VA; two daughters, Donna (Rev. Austin G. Bates) of Louisa, VA and Adriene (William) Garnett of Mineral, VA; 18 grandchildren , 23 great grandchildren, two brothers, Joseph (Yvonne) Burruss of Raphine, VA and Charles (Rosetta) Burruss of Louisa, VA; three sisters, Gloria Maupin of Seattle, WA, Otelia (Walter) Robinson of Louisa, VA and Carrie Dulin of Roanoke, VA; two sisters-in-law, Nora Talley of Louisa, VA and Ada Hopewell of Goochland, VA; three brothers-n-law, Cleveland Desper, Matt Smith and Fleming Shelton, Sr, all of Louisa, VA; two aunts, Mamie McKeathon of Louisa, VA and Katherine Burruss of Charlottesville, VA and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
Funeral services will be held 1:00 P.M. on Friday, June 10, 2011 at Foster Creek Baptist Church. Interment will follow in the Burruss Family Cemetery.
