Therod Clyde Quarles, 55, went home to be with his Saviour on October 12, 2009. He died at his home in Tacoma, Washington, after a brief illness. Therod was born June 11, 1954 in Louisa, Virginia. He was the only son of the late Raymond C. and Theola Scott Quarles. He was a graduate of Louisa County High School and also received an associate degree in engineering at DeVry Institute. Therod joined Galilee Baptist Church at an early age. Therod went to work for Sperry Marine in Charlottesville in 1973. In 1976 he moved to San Diego to the Long Beach field office as a service engineer. In 1992 he moved to Seattle, Washington and co-founded Quality Navigations (Qual-Nav). In 2002, he went to work for MacKay Marine and was employed there as a Gyro Product and service manager at the time of his death. Therod worked in the marine field for 33 yrs. Therod leaves to cherish his memory: three devoted sisters, Sandra Q. Ellis of Charlotte, North Carolina, Sharon Q. Hill (Willard) of Pound Ridge, New York and Corliss B. Holmes (Tim) of Louisa, Virginia; four nephews, Dominique and Damond Baskfield of Louisa, Virginia, Jaison Ellis of New York, New York and Willard I. Hill, III of Pound Ridge, New York; three nieces, Lauren Hill and Kimbreley Hill of Maryland and Erika Ellis of Charlotte, North Carolina; two great nieces and two great nephews; eight aunts, Audrey Perkins of Louisa, Pauline Baskfield of Columbia, Leona Johnson of Palmyra and Kathleen Bell (Ulysses) of Goochland, Elisa Scott, Mary Ann Scott, Alma Quarles and Susie Quarles all of Louisa; one uncle, Hollis Edward Pendleton and a host of cousins and friends. Therod also leaves to cherish his memory devoted friends, Harold and Sue Smart of Charlottesville, Harald and Sue Stenger and Vernon Moore of Washington, Chuck Muller, Jorji Vasquez of MacKay Marine, Jessica Michaud, two god-sons, Christien Michaud and Jason Rodriques all of Washington State. Therod will be missed by all who knew him. Funeral services will be held Tuesday, October 20, 2009 at 1 pm at Galilee Baptist Church, 3598 Three Notch Road, Ferncliff, Virginia 23053 with the Rev. Otis R. Spellman officiating. Interment will follow in the church cemetery.
