Silas Owen Houchens departed this life on Monday, June 7, 2010 at his home. Silas was born on March 22, 1938 to the late Marie Houchens and Jeffrey Yancey. He was educated in the Louisa County Public Schools in his younger years.
In addition to his parents, his twin brother, Paul Houchens and an older brother, Elijah Houchens, preceded Silas in death. Silas joined the Rising Sun Baptist Church at an early age where he served as an usher until his health began to fail.
Silas worked various jobs over the years. Silas (Jack-Bite) was definitely a family man and someone we all could get a laugh out of.
He leaves to cherish his memories, one devoted sister, Mary Houchens of Louisa, VA; a devoted brother, Leroy Houchens of Louisa, VA; four nieces, Linda Houchens, Sheila Houchens, Alfreda Morris (Dean), all of Louisa, VA and Arlene Houchens of Fayetteville, NC; three nephews, Jerry Houchens (Norrine) of Richmond, VA, Charles Houchens of Louisa, VA and Lance Houchens (Macumba) of Louisa, VA; one devoted great niece, Tia Houchens; one devoted great nephew, Rodney Houchens; four aunts, Hannah Hunter, Dorothy Henson, Bertha D. Houchens, and Alberta Houchens, all of Mineral, VA; one uncle, Eugene Houchens of Fredericks Hall, VA and a host of other great and great-great nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. on Saturday, June 12, 2010 at Rising Sun Baptist Church, 6829 Fredericks Hall Road, Mineral, with the Reverend Temple Anderson, officiating.
In keeping with his wishes, the remains of Jack Bite will be cremated and his ashes will be returned to his family.
