Shirley O'Neal Russell was born on August 3, 1945, in Mineral, VA, and passed away on May 17, 2023.

Shirley, as she was affectionately known, was a loving and thoughtful soul, who touched the lives of many with her warmth and compassion. Throughout her life, she had a strong commitment to her family and held them close to her heart. She enjoyed eating good food, laughing, and listening to music.

Shirley lived a full and meaningful life. She attended  and graduated Louisa County Public Schools.  At an early age, she became a member of Ebenezer Baptist Church in Mineral and attended until her health failed her.

Shirley, was a hardworking and dedicated individual.Her work experience included Thalhimer's Department Store and The VA Department of Taxation. Her residency included various locations such as Louisa, VA, Washington, DC, and finally settling in Richmond, Virginia.

Despite the challenges she faced, she always carried a smile on her face and had a positive attitude that was contagious to those around her. She was never married, but her love for her family knew no bounds. Shirley was a beacon of light for her loved ones and will be deeply missed by all who knew her.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Robert and Viola Anthony Russell; her sisters Rev. Mary Jackson and Deloris Richardson; her brothers Bobby Russell, Robert Russell, Jr. and James Monroe; and her son Kevin Lamont Russell.

Shirley is survived by her son Thomas Russell and Kenneth Russell; her siblings Claudia Banks, Carolyn Rivers, Ann Pace, John Russell, Charles Russell, Roger Russell, Gloria Russell, and Joyce Russell; her siblings-in-law Sidney Richardson, Dee Russell, and Lucy Russell; her grandchildren Thomas Russell, Jr. and Sharron Jackson; several great grandchildren; her nephews Alvin Jackson and James Jackson; her aunt Eva Anthony and devoted friend Coretta Morris.

A public viewing will be held on Wednesday, May 31, 2023, at 10:30 am at D.D. Watson Mortician, Inc. (Louisa) located at 117 West Street, Louisa, Virginia, 23093. Funeral services will follow at 12:00 pm at The Sun Chapel.
