Shirley Coles Johnson , the second daughter born to the late Alfred and Beatrice Winston Coles entered into eternal rest on Monday, June 30, 2025 at her home in Mineral, Virginia. She was born on December 16, 1937.
*She accepted Christ at an early age and became a member of Mt. Olivet Baptist Church in Montpelier, VA. As a devoted member, she sang on the Robinson Memorial Choir, the Senior Choir, and the Missionary Choir.
Shirley also sang with her sisters, the renown Coles Sisters, of which she took immense joy. She and her sisters fame grew, and they traveled near and far spreading the gospel through song.
On August 20, 1955, she married Leslie Rayfield Johnson. To this union 5 children were born, Ethel, Edith, Audrey, Lesley and Ray.
She loved children and took care them while their parents worked.
Shirley was preceded in death by her parents, Alfred and Beatrice Coles, her husband Leslie Johnson. her daughter, Audrey Dandridge, her sisters, Esther Johnson, Marian Harris and Arlean Anderson, Marian's husband George Harris Sr., Arlean's husband Warren Anderson, and one brother, Paul Coles.
She leaves to cherish the memories her three daughters, Ethel Powell (Harry), Edith Taylor and Lesley Horton (Marv); one son, Ray Johnson; 7 grandchildren, Marv Horton (Mia), Melissa Powell, Heather Raven (Devonte), Camron Horton, Jennifer Johnson, Donte Dandridge and Natasha (Carl) Quarles; 7 great-grandchildren; two sisters, Joyce Holt and Florence Trice; one son-in-law, William Dandridge; one devoted niece, Leatrice Pace; one devoted nephew, Frank Johnson (Keisha); two very special friends, Priscilla Trice and Adell Houchens and a host of other relatives and friends.
To the Johnson family, we at D. D. Watson offer our most sincere sympathy and condolences. Our prayer continues to be that your abiding faith in God will lend to you a measure of comfort that will strengthen and sustain you during your time of sorrow.
It is during such times as these that we draw upon our faith, stand upon our scriptures and rely upon our God. There is no question that in this and through this, God will keep you, comfort you and sustain you. You and your family are forever in our prayers.
