Shirley Richard Bruce, 89, of Kents Store, Virginia, departed this life peacefully on Saturday, November 18, 2023 at his home surrounded by family. He was one of six children born to the late Horace and Ruth Bruce.

Shirley was born on March 5, 1934, in Fluvanna County. Shirley accepted Christ at an early age. He was a member of County Line Baptist Church in Kent's Store, Virginia. He was employed by Woolco Department Store in Charlottesville, Virginia for fifteen years and University of Virginia for sixteen years. Until his health failed, he worked part-time for Advance Concrete Foundation.

He was preceded in death by his father Horace Bruce, Sr.; mother Ruth Key Bruce; one daughter Delores Baccuss Huggin; two sisters Ruth Ann Turpin and Reva Salley; one brother Horace Bruce, Jr.; one grandson Lorenzo Shepherd and one granddaughter Dawn Edward.

He leaves to cherish his memory his loving wife of sixty two years Kathleen Morris Bruce; five daughters Dorothy Ann (Emmett) Fortune of Charlottesville, Virginia; Belinda Ann (Gary)Brown of Palmyra, VA; Jeanette Bruce Shepherd of Henrico, Virginia, Shirley Bruce (Ozell) Weather of Virginia Beach, VA, Margo Bruce Higdon of Frederick, Maryland; two sisters Doris Price and Janet Holland, seven grandchildren, nine great-grandchildren & one great-great grandchild. Devoted friend Ruth Knight and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

Shirley was a loving husband, father and grandfather but most of all he was a friend to every life he touched. He was loved by many, his smile and laughter will always be a part of our lives. He was a devoted New York Giants Football Fan and he loved watching them play. His love and devotion for family and friends will be remembered by us all.

Funeral Services will be held at 11:00 am Saturday, November 25, 2023 at County Line Baptist Church, 4070 County Line Road, Kents Store, VA 23084. Interment will in the church cemetery.
