Shamara DeShannon Hunter was God's gracious gift of love, compassion and hope to all whom she encountered during her lifetime. Shamara departed this life on December 26, 2021 at Doctors Community Hospital in Lanham, Maryland. She was born on February 2, 1984 to Thomas and Rosetta Hunter in Charlottesville, Virginia. She was 37 years old when God called her to eternal rest.

Shamara matriculated through the Louisa County public school system, graduating from Louisa County High School with honors in 2002. Affectionately known as "Reka" she was a member of the Alpha to Omega Step Team where she often traveled with her team spreading joy and participating in step team competitions. Ever the life-long student eager to learn and develop herself, Reka enrolled in Saint Paul's College in Lawrenceville, Virginia, and graduated with a Bachelor's degree in Business Administration in 2006.

Later, she would obtain a Master of Science degree in Human Services with certifications in Social and Community Services and Criminal Justice from Capella University in 2014. Reka used her education and passion to serve others. In her most recent position, she served as a rehabilitation coordinator at Pleasant Behavioral Health Systems until September 2021.

Reka accepted Christ, was baptized at an early age and attended the Temple of Deliverance Church with her family in Mineral, Virginia, under the leadership of Pastor Lynn Beanum. She was an active member in the Temple's church choirs since childhood, particularly the Sunbeams Choir and later the Young Adult Choir. In addition, she served as the church's financial assistant. In October 2011, Reka invited Pastor Chism to preach at the Temple of Deliverance Young Adult Choir's anniversary celebration. It was during that service Reka received the precious Gift of the Holy Ghost.

Following God's leading, Reka joined Restoration House International (then - Citadel of Restoration) in Hyattsville, Maryland, under the leadership of Bishop Kenneth Chism in 2012. There she continued to grow and develop in Christ, serving in various leadership capacities: Small Group Leader, Shepherd's Care, Voice of Life Choir Secretary, Church Administrative Assistant, Audio/Visual Ministry, Young Adult Ministry, Media Ministry, Events Committee, and Tribal Leader. In addition, she served as Assistant to the Vice President of the One Way Churches International (OWCI) Youth Ministry.

Along with her many responsibilities, Reka's main passion was for the young people of Restoration House. She served for several years as the Director of the Youth ministry. She was instrumental in expanding the youth department, its programs, and its outreach Fredericksburg, VA 22407.

Reka's homegoing celebration will be held on Saturday, January 8, 2021 (viewing from 10-11 AM and the service will follow @ 11 AM) at Encounter Church of God, 12240 5 Mile Road, Fredericksburg, Virginia 22407.
