Sarah Barbara Fountaine Winston , age 102 of Louisa, Virginia, peacefully transitioned from her Earthly journey on Tuesday, December 13, 2022 at Noble Assistant Living.

Mrs. Sarah Winston was born on November 4, 1920 to the late Alice and Burton Fountaine. She was the fourth of five children.

She was a lifelong member of Mt. Garland Baptist Church, where she served as Mother of the Church, Trustee, Missionary, Deaconess, and Superintendent of the Church School.

She was joined in holy matrimony to Henry Preston Winston in July of 1943 in Washington, D.C. They were happily married for 34 years; no children were born of this union.

Mrs. Winston attended St. Paul's College in Lawrenceville, Virginia, and Virginia State University in Petersburg, Virginia. She was an Elementary School teacher in Louisa County for 40 years. She taught at Mt. Garland Elementary School in Bumpass, Virginia, Mineral Elementary School in Mineral, Virginia, and Louisa Intermediate School (which is known today as Thomas Jefferson Elementary School).

In addition to her husband, she is preceded in death by two sisters, Rachealand Mary, and one brother, Martin.

She leaves to carry on her legacy, one sister, Eva F. Scott of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, two devoted nephews, Walter (Joyce) Fountaine of Richmond, Virginia, and Martin Fountaine, Jr. of Bumpass, Virginia; two great-nephews, Tony Fountaine of Richmond, Virginia and Abdul-Hakiim Fountaine (a.k.a. Craig) of Norfolk, Virginia; five great-great nephews, Karrun, Kelante, Kawamel, and Karmanie, Ty and one great-great niece, Keturah, as well as a host of devoted family, friends and a devoted church family.
