Ryland Hayes Adams was born on July 1, 1938 in Gum Springs, Virginia. He went to Shady Grove Baptist Church in Gum Springs and was educated in the Goochland County School system. In 1957 he met and married the love of his life, Gladys Buckner and in that same year he joined the Army and served in Korea for a short period of time.

They left Virginia to make a life together and moved to Washington D.C., Chester Pennsylvania and settled in Clayton, New Jersey where he worked as a Supervisor at Ecko Products. In 1960, their first daughter, Janice Faye was born and then in 1964 a second daughter, Lyndia Marie. He ended up coming back to his Virginia roots when he moved his family to Mineral. He worked at General Products until he retired 27 years later and then for a short time at Louisa County High School.

Ryland affectionately called, Pop, Ray, Riley or Mr. A, by family and friends was a humble man. He loved to cook, watch westerns & wrestling shows but his favorite past time was spending time with his grandchildren and great grandchildren! They were the true joy of his life!

Ryland Hayes Adams went home to be his Lord and Savior on December 21, 2016 at Hospice of Piedmont in Charlottesville, VA. He was preceded in death by his grandparents Warner and Mable Adams, his parents William and Lulu Garnett; a daughter, Janice Adams and brothers, James Garnett, Harold Garnett and Sherman Garnett.

He is survived by his wife of almost 60 years, Gladys Adams of Mineral; daughter Lyndia Porter (Ernest) of Louisa; brother, William Garnett, Jr of East Orange, NJ; sister, Althea Garnett of Chester, PA; brother-in-law, Charles Buckner of Washington, DC; three sisters-in-law, Ruthann Shelton (Curtis) of Mineral, Christine Whittaker of Chester, PA and Janice Shelton (William) of Louisa; two granddaughters, Tiffany Anderson (Jason) of Green County and Symone Early of Louisa; three great grandchildren, Tahkyrah Cooke, Hayz Adams and JaKobe Anderson all of Green County along with a host of relatives and friends.

Funeral services will be held noon, Wednesday, December 28, 2016 in the Sun Chapel at D. D. Watson Mortician with Rev. Fred Sales officiating. Interment will follow in the Buckner Family Cemetery, Mineral, VA.
