Ruth Comfort Richardson, loving wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother, sister, aunt and friend departed this life to be with our Lord on February 2, 2022.
Ruth was born to the late Thomas Comfort and Annie Jones Comfort. She was a life long servant of God, accepting Christ at the Branch Fork Baptist Church at an early age. She was also an active member of Shady Grove Baptist Church and served in many ministries, including the Deaconess Board, Choir Member, Sunday School Teacher and President of the Happy Hearts Club. She was also a lifetime member of the Eastern Star. She helped to create the Crusaders youth gospel group with Geraldine Richardson.
Our mother loved to sing. On many Sundays, you would find her praising God at local churches and nursing homes, singing "Amazing Grace", "Never Grow Old, and "His Eye is on the Sparrow".
In her professional life, she was a teacher's aide for children with learning disabilities. She was also a bus driver for Louisa and Orange County schools. She was the first black bank teller for Louisa Community Bank and ended her professional career as a senior bank teller for Virginia Community Bank.
Upon retiring, she embraced two of her life long passions--painting and music. Throughout her retirement, she honed her talent and skills creating beautiful landscapes. As a testament to her mastery of painting, her artwork hangs on many family members' walls. She also spent many hours practicing the piano and learning new pieces from the hymnal. As the years passed, she took special enjoyment teaching her great grandchildren the joy of playing duets on the family organ.
She leaves behind the love of her life her husband of 72 years, Lee Richardson; four daughters--Francine Blackwell, Linda Richardson, Marilyn Richardson and Glenda White (Roger); six grandchildren--Lee Gray (Josef), Rasheika Cajanding, Ian Blackwell, Amber Crook (Lyle); Darian White and Deveri White; and, three great grandchildren--Mia Cajanding, Sutton Crook and Willow Gray.
Two sisters--Jean Taylor and Ellen Johnson; one brother Amon Comfort (Dora); Richardson in-laws--Geraldine Richardson, Elaine Richardson, Mary Lou Richardson, Romano Richardson, Jack Richardson (Chris), Mary Jean Comfort, Ruth McGhee, Agnes Thomas (John) and a host of nephews and nieces.
Our sister in love, Anita Burnett, who has nurtured, protected and loved our mother.
