Ruth Dorman Baskfield was born November 11, 1932 to William Dorman and Hattie White. She was preceded in death by her husband, Louis A. Baskfield Sr.; her father, William Dorman; stepmother, Elsie Dorman; and son, Arthur (Bootsie) Baskfield.
Ruth, or "Mrs. B," as she was fondly known by family and friends, graduated from S.C Abrams High School. She worked at Martha Jefferson Hospital for more than 30 years. Ruth was a member of Shiloh Baptist Church for many years before joining Columbia Baptist Church and was very active in church activities and community volunteer organizations. She found great delight in singing and even directed youth choirs. One of her favorite songs was "May the Work I've Done Speak for Me." Her mantra was "Do like the hen do: all you can."
Ruth is survived by a daughter, Schrazez, and three stepchildren, Clara and husband, Ron Claiborne of Washington, D.C.; Louis Baskfield and wife, Dianne of Charlottesville; and Orlando Baskfield of Norfolk, VA. Other survivors include nine grandchildren, four great-children and a number of loving nephews, nieces, cousins and other relatives and friends, including a loving and very caring former daughter-in-law, Teresa Quarles.
The family would like to recognize the staff at Envoy at the Village for its demonstrated love, care and dedication.
Funeral services will be held 11 a.m. Friday, January 10, 2014 at Columbia Baptist Church 116 Rivanna Street Columbia,VA 23038 with Rev. Philip A Carter officiating. Interment will follow in the church cemetery.
