Ruben Callahan Jr. (Big) of Kents Store, VA, departed this life on Friday, August 6, 2010 at Martha Jefferson Hospital in Charlottesville, VA. He was the son of the late Ruben Callahan Sr. & Maude (Pratt) Callahan born on May 11, 1916 in Abbeville, SC. As a young child, he attended Athens Fire Baptized Holiness Church in Cleveland, OH and later in life, accepted the Lord as his Savior. He served in the US Army from 1941 to 1945 and was a Veteran of World War II. He was employed as a Time Keeper for the United States Post Office for 28 years.
He was preceded in death by his loving wife, the late Rebecca (Bates) Callahan of Kents Store, VA, sisters, Elizabeth Callahan & Harriet (Callahan) Carter and brothers, Raymond Callahan and James A. Callahan all of Cleveland, OH.
He leaves to mourn five loving children; Ruben (Major) Callahan III (Geneva) of Cleveland, OH, Lorenzo Robert (Mickey) Callahan of Bremo Bluff, VA, Andre Jerome Callahan of Kents Store, VA, Sharon Teresa (Callahan) George (Larry) of Goochland, VA and Clarence Bradford Callahan (Judy) of Kents Store, VA. Brothers Robert Lee Callahan of Warrensville Heights, OH, Timothy Callahan of Bedford Heights, OH, sisters, Essie (Callahan) Roberson of Bedford, Ohio & Tabitha (Callahan) Richmond of Cleveland, OH, a Daughter-in-law, Ann Hackler of Maple Heights, OH, sixteen grand-children, nine great-grandchildren and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins & friends.
Funeral services will be held 11 a.m. Friday, August 13, 2010 at Thomasson Watson Funeral Chapel 117 West Street Louisa,VA 23093. Burial, with military honors, will be in Holly Memorial Gardens Charlottesville,VA.
