We announce with profound sadness the passing of Roy Lee Bishop, Jr., fondly known as Junior, on January 9, 2024. Born to the late Roy and Pauline Bishop on June 20, 1939, in Louisa, VA, Roy spent his entire life in the county he loved. He was a loving pillar of his community, a beacon of support, and his generous spirit touched the lives of many.
A funny and loving soul, Roy was a devoted husband to Linda Bishop, whom he married on October 17, 1964. Their union was blessed with four children: Cheryl, Paula (Rickey), Kimberly, and Roy II (Kristy). He was a supportive father and a cherished grandfather to Kierra (Chrissy), Jamal, Jawaan, (Anjanetta), Raeshawn, Michelle, Rickey Jr, Joshua, Alexis and Jordan and his four great-grandchildren: Eden, Alana, Eliza and Greyson. His spirit will continue to live on through his family, including his sisters Earline and Clara Fortune, his sister-in-law Fannie Bishop, his brothers-in-law Joe (Mary) Burgess, Herbert Burgess, and Alfred Fortune and a host of relatives and friends.
Roy spent the majority of his professional life as a cook at Food of All Nations, where his culinary skills were appreciated by all. He retired in 1988, dedicating his time to his family and hobbies such as landscaping. He relished quiet evenings watching TV and enjoyed spending time with his loved ones. His family was the cornerstone of his life, and their well-being was his utmost priority. He looked forward to seeing his Great-niece Malaya who he shared his birthday with. Roy was preceded in death by his parents, Roy Sr. and Pauline Bishop, his sister Lucille Fortune, and his brothers William and Earl Bishop.
As we remember Roy, we are reminded of the verse from the book of Matthew 5:4, "Blessed are those who mourn, for they will be comforted." His legacy of love, generosity, and support will continue to comfort us in these times of sorrow. He will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved him.
Please visit Roy's memorial page to leave your memories and upload photos. Your stories and pictures will serve as a comforting reminder of the joyful and loving life he lived.
