Mrs. Rosa Bruce Payne departed this life on May 7, 2016 at Cedars
Nursing Home in Charlottesville, VA. She was born on April 6, 1933
in Fluvanna County to the late Robert (Bob) and Rosa Lillie Fowler
Bruce.

She accepted Christ at an early age at the Byrd Grove Baptist Church
in Kents Store, VA and was a devoted member until her health failed.
She attended the local school. Upon completion, she moved to New
York and then Philadelphia. There she worked as a pediatric nurse
for over 43 years.

She was preceded in death by her loving husband, Herman Payne; her
parents, Robert (Bob) and Rosa Lillie Fowler Bruce; two brothers,
Aubrey and George Bruce; one sister, Olivia Bruce; two sisters-inlaws,
Margaret and Margaret Jackson Bruce and a dear friend that
she called mother and missed so much, Bertha Cottman.

She leaves to cherish her fond memories, two brothers, Thomas
(Malinda) and Ernest Bruce of Kents Store, VA; two sisters, Geneva
Key and Sarah Bradshaw of Louisa, VA; one sister-in-law, Thelma
Bruce of Wilmington, VA; two devoted nieces, Rena Bowles and
Twanda Diaz; one devoted nephew, Alphonzo Bruce, Sr. and a host of
other nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

In tears we watched you sinking, we watched you fade away, Our
hearts was nearly broken. You fought so hard to stay, but when we
saw you sleeping so peaceful, free from pain we couldn't wish you
back, to suffer more again. It broke our hearts to see you go, but you
didn't go alone, for a part of us went with you the day God called you
home. Alphonzo, Rena and Twanda.

Funeral Services will be held 1 p.m. Monday, May 23, 2016 at Byrd Grove Baptist Church 2003 Cedar Lane Road Kents Store, VA 23084 with Minister Teresa Matthews Baskfield officiating and the Rev. Philip Carter eulogist. Interment will follow in Pleasant Grove Baptist Church Cemetery.
