At 81 years of age, Deacon Roger L. Parrish Sr., great-great-grandson of Rachel Kennon, great-grandson of Phillip B. Parrish, grandson of William J. G. Parrish and son of Irving L. Parrish transitioned to his Heavenly home on March 17, 2021 at the University of Virginia Hospital.  He was surrounded by his wife, Frances (Grooms) Parrish; his son, Rodney L. Parrish and daughter Willamae Parrish Williams.

Deacon Parrish was born in Logan, West Virginia and reared by his parents, Love and Willa Mae (Binders) Singleton and his parents Irving and Odessa (Tweedy) Parrish in Kents Store, Virginia.

Deacon Parrish graduated from Arcoma Colored High School, Logan, West Va.

Deacon Parrish and Deaconess Frances were united in marriage on June 29, 1973 in Louisa, Virginia.

Deacon Parrish worked as a supervisor with The University of Virginia's Department of Transportation and Parking until his retirement. He continued to work at Walmart after retirement, where he received several customer service awards and was featured in a training video for oncoming associates.

Deacon Parrish held the title of Chairman and Secretary of The Deacons Conference, and Chairman of Galilee Baptist Church Deacons. He was granted the title of Deacon Emeritus at Galilee Baptist Church as well. Deacon Parrish was an avid bowler who loved to travel and sing with the Galilee Baptist Church Men's Choir and Gospel Chorus.

Deacon Parrish is preceded in death by his loving parents, Love and Willa Mae (Binders) Singleton and Irving and Odessa (Tweedy) Parrish; brother, Love C. Singleton Jr.; son, Roger L. Parrish Jr.; sister, Pastor Brenda (Singleton) Smith; granddaughter, Tina Marie Bright and great-granddaughter, Shanasia Alexis Parrish.

Deacon Parrish is survived by his wife, Frances M. (Grooms) Parrish; his children, Pastor Crystal Parrish (New York), Gladys Grooms Brown (Virginia), Shayvette Parrish (New York), Irving Parrish (New York), Gladnell Parrish Gaskins (North Carolina), Paul Parrish (Georgia), Rodney Parrish (Virginia), Darlene Grooms Carter (Virginia), Ronald Parrish (Illinois) and Willamae Parrish Williams (Maryland). He is also survived by two honorary daughters, Millicent Lindsay and Kimberly Gaines and his siblings, Carolyn Richardson (Virginia), Eugenia Carolina (Virginia), Judy Singleton (Ohio), Marsha Cecil (Virginia) and Clifford Singleton (California).

Deacon Parrish was also blessed with a total of 40 grandchildren, 50 great grandchildren, two great-great-grandchildren, and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and other family.
