Rodney Gregory Gatewood , affectionately known as Rod and Butters to those who knew him best, departed from our world on December 13, 2024. Born in Charlottesville, Virginia, on November 26, 1978, Rodney was a beacon of light and love in the lives of many. He was an adventurous soul, always eager to explore new horizons and experiences. He embodied the essence of the quote, "Life is either a daring adventure or nothing at all."
Rodney was a man of many talents, but his most passionate pursuit was as a cook in a local restaurant. His culinary skills were a testament to his creativity and love for food. His dishes were not just meals, but expressions of his love and care. He spent five memorable years in his occupation, transforming ordinary ingredients into extraordinary meals. When he wasn't working, Rodney enjoyed sitting by the beach, drawing, and tattooing with his children, all while imparting significant life lessons to them.
His spirit was compassionate and humble. His family was the center of his universe, especially his children, Elijah and Yazmen, who were his number one priority. His love for his family was immeasurable, as was his commitment to their happiness and well-being. His father, Roger Gatewood, his mother, Peggy Ann Gatewood, and his brother, Roger Jr., survive Rodney, each carrying cherished memories of their time with him.
Rodney was preceded in death by his brother, Robert Gatewood, his grandparents, Robert and Elaine Gatewood, and Robert and Edna Holt. As we mourn the loss of Rodney, we find solace in the words of Helen Keller, "What we once enjoyed and deeply loved we can never lose, for all that we love deeply becomes a part of us."
As we gather to celebrate Rodney's life and legacy, we encourage friends and family to share their memories and upload photos to his memorial page. As we remember Rodney, let us honor his adventurous spirit, compassionate heart, humble nature, and creativity. His legacy will not be forgotten.
The Gatewood/Holt family sincerely appreciate all acts of kindness, consideration, prayers, and affection shown during the loss of our loved one. ALL SERVICES WILL BE PRIVATE. Our Rodney will be sorely missed! God bless you all!
