Roberta "Penny" Ann Thurston , age 77, of Charlottesville, Virginia began her heavenly journey to eternal paradise on September 6, 2024.

Penny was born on October 3, 1946, to Carroll and Pauline Fleming of Virginia.

Penny embraced every aspect of life with boundless enthusiasm.  She delighted in listening to good music, dancing with joy, and finding beauty in the simplest things.  Her love for flowers was only matched by her passion for life, as she cherished the sight, scent, and feel of every bloom. Penny's vibrant spirit touched the hearts of all who knew her, leaving behind cherished memories of her warmth and zest for life.  More than anything, Penny's deep love for God was the foundation of her life.  Her passion for attending church and worshiping with her community was a constant source of joy.  Her unwavering faith, joyful spirit, and steadfast devotion will be remembered by all who knew her.

Penny leaves behind cherished memories with her husband, Samuel Thurston, Sr; one son, Samuel Thurston, Jr. (Gwendolyn); three daughters, Linda Thurston, Seline Thurston, and Marlene Woodford; a host of grandchildren and great-grandchildren; brothers, James "Parker" Johnson, Calvin Flemming, and James "June" Johnson; sisters-n-law, Gussie Thurston and Clarissa Thurston; brother-in-law, Paul Thurston, and host of nieces, nephews, and cousins.

She is preceded in death by her parents, Carroll and Pauline Flemming; sisters, Nancy Horton and Mary Horton; brother, Cecil Horton; granddaughter, Latoya Thurston, and niece, Pauline Johnson.
