Robert “Bobby” Jefferson Ellis Sr., 80, of New York, passed away peacefully on June 24, 2026. Born June 15, 1946, Bobby lived a life defined by laughter, love, and an unwavering presence that filled every room he entered. Known for his humor, wisdom, and candid counsel, he touched the lives of many and leaves a legacy of loyalty, resilience, and joy.

Bobby was a devoted father and grandfather who believed in hard work, honest speech, and cherishing good company. He retired from the New York Sanitation Department in 2002 after a distinguished and faithful career, exemplifying a life of service and dedication.

He is survived by his children: Robert Jr.; Tracy Ellis(Greg); Tanya Ellis; Marcus Ellis; Christopher Ellis; Shannon DeCarlos; Bryant Hicks(Mariah); Brittney Walker-Lee (Korey); Christopher Ellis; Jeffrey Culbertson; and Kelley Bonner. He also leaves his sisters, Carolyn Ellis and Linda Bright(Joseph); grandchildren; great-grandchildren; nieces; nephews; and a host of friends whom he cherished and they will carry his stories, laughter, and spirit with them.

Bobby was preceded in death by his parents, Jefferson and Verlette Ellis; siblings Lawrence Ellis, Beverly Smith, and Velton, Sr.; his grandson Michael Layne,Jr.; and his brother-in-law Maurice Smith. He was widowed, having been married to Annie Margaret Ellis on October 8, 1993.

Bobby lived by the belief that what we love deeply becomes part of us. He embodied service to others and will be remembered for his big voice, generous heart, and steadfast devotion to family and community. His spirit will continue to inspire those who knew him.
