Robert Lewis Burruss, Sr., age 79, departed this life on February 24, 2014 at the Louisa Health Care and Rehabilitation Center, surrounded by his family.
He was born August 25, 1934, to the late John and Lucy Burruss. He was educated in Louisa, County Public Schools and worked as a sawmill operator for most of his life.
Robert was a faithful deacon at Union Run Baptist Church for over 30 years until his health declined. He first accepted Christ as Lord and Savior at an early age and attended Foster Creek Baptist Church in Louisa, VA.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Susie Christine Howard Burruss; two sisters, Carrie Grooms and Cora Andrews; two brothers, Herman Burruss, Sr. and John Davis Burruss.
He leaves to cherish his memory four sons: Alexander H. Burruss, Sr. (Ernestine) of Troy, VA, Kelvin E. Burruss (Sue) of Camp Zuma, Japan, Andrew L. Burruss of Keswick, VA, and Robert L. Burruss, Jr. (Donna) of Louisa, VA; two daughters, Jacqueline H. Jamison (Lacy) of Norfolk, VA and Joyce B. Mills (Curtis, Sr.) of Keswick, VA; two brothers, Clarence Burruss of Louisa VA, and Lloyd Burruss, Sr. (Mary) of Fluvanna County, VA; two sisters, Marie Christmas of Charlottesville, VA and Joyce Christmas (Ralph) of Louisa, VA; nine grandchildren, five great-grandchildren; a special friend, Elder Phillip Dyer, Sr. and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
The funeral services will be held Saturday, March 1, 2014 11 a.m. in the Union Run Baptist Church 3220 Richmond Road Keswick, VA 22947 with Rev. Dr. Rickey E. White officiating. The burial will be in the church cemetery. May the work he's done speak for him.
