Richard (Ricky) L. Smith, Jr., 60, was born March 11, 1948 to the late Richard L. Smith, Sr. and Bernice Melton Smith in Louisa Virginia, and departed this life on Tuesday, May 27, 2008 at the University of Virginia Hospital in Charlottesville, Virginia. Ricky was preceeded by his wife Marilyn Gentry Smith; his father Richard L. Smith, Sr; sister, Karen Smith, brother Edward C.(Eddie)Smith; uncles, Eugene, Leo, Melvin, Al Smith and Willard C. Melton; and one aunt Annie Robinson. Ricky married Marilyn Gentry on October 30, 1970, to this union three children were born; a son Elmore Gentry of Charles City, Virginia; Monica Gentry and Vickie Jones(Tony) of Louisa, Virginia; he is also survived by his mother Bernice Melton Smith; two brothers, Kenneth A. Smith, Sr; and Marcus K. Smith, Sr.; four sisters, Brenda S. Quarles (Phillip), Rosetta S. Burruss (Charles), Lorna S. Stevens, Sylvia S. Quarles (Albert); grandmother, Mamie Melton McKeathon; five grandchildren, Antonio Scott, John Gentry, Tarel Smith, Manay Gentry and Victoria Smith; three brothers-in-law, Lawrence Gentry, Sr.(Ethel); Earl Gentry (Viola); and Bobby Gentry (Renee); three sisters-in-law Peggy Gentry (Tommy); Ethel Jefferson (William) and Patricia Smith; three aunts Nora Robinson (Melvin); Ada Whitley (Warren) and Jordina Chandler (Rainey); two great aunts, Jannie M. Langford and Veryl Deloatch; four uncles, Matt E. Smith, Sr.; Harry M. Smith, Sr.;(Sarah), Larry L. Smith and Robert C. Rucker (Doris) and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday, May 31, 2008 at Thomasson Watson Funeral Chapel. Interment will follow in the McKeathon Family Cemetery.
