Reuben Augustus Gilkes was born on March 9, 1955, to the late Hycinth Shortt Raymond and Augustus Gilkes, in Buxton, Guyana.
Reuben was called home to eternal rest on December 20, 2023, at home, surrounded by his wife and children.
During his early life, Reuben attended St. Anthony's R.C. Buxton High School, and G.I.T.C where he studied masonry. He later enlisted into the G.D.F (Guyana Defense Force). He then worked for G.E.C now known as G.P.L.
Reuben met the love of his life, Sherry and migrated to the United States in 1993. Reuben worked for productions at Allied Brass in Manhattan, New York. In 2004, Reuben moved his family to Louisa, Virginia, where he worked at Paul's Decorative and Carboline Fire Protection dedicating 10 plus years and retired.
Reuben is preceded in death by his grandparents, parents, Hycinth and Augustus; siblings, Shelly, Derek, Nigel and Winifred, nieces, and nephews.
He leaves behind his wife, Sherlyn; his children, Jermaine, Alwyn, Anika, Ronnette, Keshanna, Adele and Olivia; his grandchildren, Elijah, Chelsea(Chelo), Ethan(Josey), Nova, Avigail(Ava) and Caleigh (CalCal); sisters and brothers, Sandra, Debbie(Linden), Claude, Rico, Aubrey(Gwenett), Audrey, Ineze, George, Mineva, and Vibert; many nieces and nephews whom he adored, Shavvy, Suzanne, O'Dassia, Odelyn, Demani, Webster, Cassie, Colin, Quincey, to name a few and cherished friends that have become family.
Reuben will be missed by his family and friends. May he rest in eternal peace.
