Percy Russell Brent, the youngest son of the late George and Lottie Brent, was born on December 7, 1927, in Washington, DC. He went home to be with the Lord on Friday, December 26, 2008 after a long battle with cancer. Percy was preceded in death by his wife Laverne, his parents, two brothers ,James L. Brent and George E. Brent, both of Washington, DC, and two sisters, Dorothy Morton of Washington, DC and Delancey Gray of Maryland.
At a young age, Percy began to receive his spiritual guidance at Matthews Memorial Baptist Church. He received his academic education in the District of Columbia school system and worked in the construction business until he retired. After his retirement, he would regularly meet with friends for coffee in the mornings until his move to Louisa, VA a few years ago.
Dick, as he was affectionately called, was a giving individual with a servant's heart. Dick lived his life to the fullest! He was filled with love and concern for his family and friends.
Dick leaves to cherish his memory: one son, Percy R. Brent, Jr. of Maryland; three daughters, Devall Star of Maryland, Danielle and Darlene Brent of Louisa, VA; several grandchildren; one sister, Delores L. Childs of Louisa, VA; one sister-in-law, Gracie Brent of Washington, DC; a step-daughter and step-son; a loving niece, Cynthia (Kandi) Childs; and nephew Clarence Washington and his wife, Jackie, whom he loved like a son and daughter. Dick also has many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends who will miss him dearly.
Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Friday, January 2, 2008 at Thomasson Watson Funeral Chapel with the Rev. Dr. Thomas J. Wooden, Jr. officiating. Interment will follow in the First Baptist Church Cemetery.
