Patricia Hill Powell, affectionately called "Trish", daughter of George E. Hill and the late Martha Jackson Hill entered into this world on October 5, 1944, and departed on Monday, August 18, 2008.

Patricia, in her early childhood years was a member of the First Baptist Church and attended Bright Hope Baptist Church accompanying her grandparents, the late Joseph and Susie B. Hill. During her college years, she became a member of the St. Cyprian's Episcopal Church in Hampton, Virginia.

Patricia attended the Louisa Training School and A.G. Richardson High School in Louisa, Virginia. She was a graduate of Hampton Institute with a degree in Special Education.

She started her teaching career in the Hampton Public School System. In the late sixties, Patricia moved to White Plains, New York, where she taught special education in the BOCES Southern Westchester educational system until her retirement in 2000.

She will be greatly missed by her two sisters, Barbara Holt of Louisa, Virginia, and Gwen Cooper of Petersburg, Virginia; and two brothers-in-law, Alfred Holt of Louisa, Virginia, and Tony B. Cooper of Petersburg, Virginia.
Bringing her much joy was her love for her nieces and nephew, who traveled to "Aunt Patricia's" house for Thanksgiving for some 16 years, Melissa Anderson and Michael Holt of Louisa, Virginia and Courtney Teter of Harrisonburg, Virginia. She had one niece-in-law, Missy Holt of Louisa, Virginia. Patricia was blessed with the wonderful opportunity to have great-nieces and nephews. They are Ashley Quarles of Louisa, Virginia, Dominique Anderson of Asheville, North Carolina, Alexandra, Makenna and Camden Teter of Harrisonburg, Virginia; and one great-nephew-in-law, Joseph Quarles of Louisa, Virginia. There are two great-great-nephews, Avery Quarles and Jamari Holt; and one great-great-niece, Jaylynn Quarles, all of Louisa, Virginia. Patricia's devoted high school friend, Jane Fletcher Oxendine, remained a very close friend through out the years.

While Patricia will be missed by us all, we have unfaltering faith in a living God and know that it will all be better bye and bye.

There will be a public viewing from 10 a.m. until 7 p.m. Friday August 22, 2008, at the funeral home and family hour will be from 6 until 7 p.m. at Thommasson Watson Funeral Chapel.

The funeral will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, August 23, 2008, at Bright Hope Baptist Church, with interment at the church cemetery.
