Otis Mason Carter Sr. age 81 of Louisa, Va. departed this earthly life on December 15, 2011 at his residence. He was born in Bumpass, Va. on January 10, 1930 to the late John and Betty Thomas Carter.
Otis was married to the late Dorothy Johnson Carter for 58 years and to this union 7 children were born. He was educated in Louisa County Public School System and served in the United States Army during the Korean War. He was a faithful member of the First Baptist Church in Louisa where he served as the Chairman of the Deacon Board, Sunday School Superintendent, a member of the Men's Chorus, church custodian, and many other church organizations. Otis was employed by Preston Trucking Company where he retired after 23 years of service.
He was preceded in death by his devoted wife, Dorothy Carter; two children, Joyce Carter Burruss and Michael Carter; two grandchildren, Landon Burruss and Dwan (Dee-Dee) Burruss and 12 siblings.
He leaves to cherish his memories: two daughters, Deborah Trice and Robin Eure (Tony) both of Louisa, VA; three sons, Otis Mason Carter Jr. (Helen) of Gaithersburg, MD, Herbert Carter (Kathleen) and Lawrence Carter both of Louisa, VA; two aunts, Susie Quarles of Louisa, VA and Mary Hughes of Woodbridge, VA; fourteen grandchildren; twelve great-grandchildren; three sisters-in-law; two brothers-in-law and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
Funeral Services will be held on Tuesday, December 20, 2011, at 12 noon, at the First Baptist Church, Louisa, VA with interment to follow in the Poindexter Family Cemetery with military honors. Community viewing will be held Monday, from 12 noon until 7 p.m. and 1 hour prior to the funeral services.
