On Wednesday, May 23, 2007, God, Our Father, in his
wisdom, closed the eyes of our beloved brother, Norman Dennis
Pendleton. Although our hearts are saddened and heavy, we
concur that God only picks the best.
Norman was born on September 9, 1955 in Philadelphia, Pa.,
to William and Bertha Morris Pendleton. The youngest of three
children, he grew up with his loving sister and brother, Carolyn
and William, Jr.
Norman graduated from the Germantown High School in
Philadelphia and attended Temple University receiving his
undergraduate degree from Spring Garden College, Philadelphia,
Pa.
While living in Philadelphia, Norman was a member of the
United Church of Christ-Woodcrest. After moving to Louisa
County, he united himself with and joined the Watch Tower
Baptist Church, Bumpass. He was made a deacon of the church
in 1995 and until his passing served as chairman of the Board.
Norman served in many capacities of the church, from Sunday
School teacher to choir member and in each capacity he served
with commitment, gratitude and pride because he Loved the
Lord.
On June 28, 1986, he was united in holy matrimony to the
former Vanessa Thomasson. God blessed them with two
daughters, Brittany Marie (17) and Tiffany Denise (15). To
know Norman was to love him as he never met a stranger and he
was never hesitant to express to the entire world his love and
commitment to Christ and his family. "Vanessa and the girls"
were truly the center of his joy. He was a loving and devoted
husband and father who always put his family first.
Norman was a hard and dedicated worker, committed to
providing for his family. At the time of his passing, Norman was
employed as an Assistant Conductor with Amtrak. Prior to his
employment with Amtrak he was employed by the James River
Bus Company.
Norman leaves to cherish his memory, his loving and devoted
wife of 20 years, Vanessa Thomasson Pendleton; two daughters,
Brittany and Tiffany; his parents, Mr. & Mrs. William
Pendleton, Sr. of Philadelphia, Pa.; a sister and a brother,
Carolyn Pendleton and William Pendleton, Jr. and his wife,
Madeline of Philadelphia, Pa; 6 sisters-in-law, 6 brothers -in-
law; one great-aunt, Mrs. Julia Holland of Louisa; 10 aunts; 8
uncles; 8 nephews; 6 nieces; a number of great-nieces and
nephews and a host of other relatives and devoted friends.
A family visitation will be held 6-8:00 p.m. Sunday, May 27, at Thomasson Watson Funeral Chapel. Funeral services will be held 1:00 p.m. Monday, May 28, at the Rising Sun Baptist Church; viewing at the church from 11:30 until the hour of the service. Interment will be in the Spring Grove Memorial Park, Mineral, Virginia.
