Nathaniel Henderson, affectionately known as "Nate the Great from Southwest Philadelphia", was born in Douglas, Georgia on December 19, 1946. On Monday, September 19, 2022, Nathaniel was peacefully called home to his eternal rest.
He accepted the Lord Jesus Christ as his personal Savior at an early age. He attended the public school system in Savannah, Georgia and later moved to Philadelphia, Pennsylvania where he graduated from Simon Gratz High School. He served in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam era. After returning from the Service, he met the love of his life, Fannie Clark, and later was joined in Holy Matrimony, and was married for 51 years.
He was a member of the Victory Memorial Baptist Church in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, and later moved to Louisa, Virgina, where he became a member of Divine Baptist Church. At both churches, he served as Trustee, Praise and Worship Leader, and Usher for many years.
Nathaniel worked at the Veterans Administration Hospital until he became disabled.
He leaves to cherish his memories, his devoted wife Rev. Fannie Clark Henderson, twin daughters Stacey Conyer (Robert), of Pemberton, New Jersey, Tracey Williams of Stafford, Virginia. Three grandsons, Bruce Allen Williams III, Nathan Clifton Conyer, and Robert Nathaniel Conyer.
Four brothers preceded him in death: David Daniel, Mark, Rozel, and Peter. Two sisters, Henrietta Daniels, and Louella Ruffin.
He was one of ten children born to the late Reverend David and Rosa Henderson. Nathaniel will forever be remembered by his surviving brothers, Reverend Matthew Henderson and Clarence Henderson of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. Harry L. Henderson of Willingboro, New Jersey, one sister, May Etta Gordon of Savannah, Georgia. Two sisters-in-law Theresa Henderson and Gracie Clark Smith (Johnnie), one Brother-in-law, Kelly Clark (Dorothy), and a host of nieces, nephews and cousins.
