Mildred Louise Morris departed this life on January 14, 2015 at the University of Virginia Hospital after many years of illness. She finally won her battle and has rejoined her Lord and her beloved son. Praise ye the Lord.
Mildred, affectionately called "Millie," was the first born child of Eldridge Nathaniel and Helen Inez Cash Harris. She was preceded in death by both her parents, her son, Donald Jr., her younger sister, Marie E. Harris, her oldest sister Helen and brothers-in law David A. Thurston, Thomas Morris Jr., Curtis Morris, Stanley P. Crawford Sister-in Law Delores Johnson, Mother and Father- in law, Gladys and Thomas Morris Sr.,and her daughter-in-law Kiki Morris.
Millie was raised in Louisa all her young life. She was educated in the Louisa County School System. After Graduating from the A. G. Richardson High School in 1967, Millie moved to Washington D. C. where she worked as a telephone operator, first for Woodward and Lothrup and later as an overseas operator with the U. S. Government. Millie loved her work and she loved the busy life she led in the city.
In June of 1969 Millie returned briefly to Louisa where she was joined in marriage with her childhood sweetheart, Donald Morris. From this union their only son Donald Jr. was born and was the joy of their life.
Millie loved life and lived it to the fullest. She was blessed with an excellent singing voice and she loved to sing. Millie joined First Baptist Church in Louisa at the age of eleven under the Pastorate of Rev. John O. Peterson. She lifted her voice in several First Baptist choirs, including the Junior Choir, directed by Deaconess Erlener Mason and Sister Cozette Gilliam, the Young Adult Choir under the direction of Mr. James B. Harris. Millie also considered herself part of the Mt. Gilliam Old Site Church Family and often sang with the Senior Choir of that great church.
Millie leaves to treasure her memory and mourn her passing, though not lingeringly so, her beloved Grandson, Kristian Liam Morris of Laurel, Maryland; her Step-Father, Milton E. Wrenn of Louisa; her youngest sister, Brenda J. Shelton (Roger) of Kents Store Va; two aunts, Alice E. Cash and Nannie G. Coleman, both of Maryland; devoted sister-in law, Dora Comfort (Amon) of Spotsylvania County; her devoted nephew and running buddy, Eldridge (Pete) Thurston (Jenny) of Charlottesville, VA); best buds and devoted nieces, Beverly Shoaf (Chon) of Chapel Hill, N.C., Brenda Comfort of Laurel Maryland, Amanda Crawford of Louisa and Sharon Shelton (George) of Mineral, Va. Rev. Joanne Brice of Kents Store, Va., Bernice Redd of Charlottesville, Val and Mother Alice Christmas (Rev. Robert) of Louisa and a host of other nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
She will be sorely missed by all her friends including Mrs. Barbara Holt, the former Gloria Perkins, Mrs. Ann Dawson, Ms. Lisa Hughes, Ms. Peggy White.
Funeral Services will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday, January 24, 2015 at Thomasson Watson Funeral Chapel, with Rev. Sherman W. Thomas officiating. Interment will follow in the First Baptist Church Cemetery.
