Milburn Lester Coles was born on Monday, June 30, 1947, a son of the late Albert James and Lula Marshall Coles in Hanover County, Virginia. With his wife and his children by his bedside he entered into peaceful rest on Tuesday, September 20, 2022.
He received his education in the public schools of Hanover County. Milburn was employed in several capacities retiring in 2009 from Allied Concrete. Following retirement, Milburn returned to one of his former employers, Louisa County Public Schools, where he transported students to and from school. While quite fulfilling, Milburn sought more …. he worked part time with D. D. Watson, Mortician, Inc. and volunteered regularly with the Louisa County Resource Council. Milburn enjoyed fishing, hunting, and watching football and spoiling his grandsons. Milburn will also be remembered for his service with the Mineral Volunteer Fire Department and his part time employment with Louisa County Parks and Recreation.
Milburn accepted Jesus as his Savior and was baptized and united with the Union Baptist Church (Beaverdam). Upon his relocation to Louisa County, he moved his church membership to the Rising Sun Baptist Church under the pastoral leadership of Reverend Sherman Thomas. On April 6, 1986, he was ordained as a deacon. Milburn was the current Diaconate Ministry Chairman. He was also a previous member and president of the Usher's Ministry; a former member and chairman of the Trustee ministry; former Sunday School Superintendent, and current Senior Choir and Men's Chorus member. Milburn was a member of Masonic Lodge #113.
Milburn was preceded in death by his parents: Albert and Lula Marshall Coles, brothers: James Carter, Lester, Richard, Henry, and Lawson Coles, and sisters: Bernice Waller and Elaine Coles.
Milburn leaves to cherish his memory, his wife of 37 years: Deborah; his son: Shane (devoted friend Thomasa Billie); his daughter: Alethia Jones (Shahumaad) "Shai"; six grandsons: Miles Lester, Micah Henry, and Jhanif Antonio Coles, and Kaiir Khalief, Saamir Lamar, and Qadir Jisan Jones; a brother: Dempsey (Gloria); brothers-in-law: Willie, Edward, David, and Thomas Calloway; sisters-in-law: Mary Coles, Velma Chase, Stella Calloway, Emma Dixon, and Adelaide Johnson; and, devoted friends: Alfred Holt and Wade Dickerson and a great host of nephews, nieces, cousins and friends. Milburn never met an enemy and wore a smile for all. If he met you, he embraced you and you became a part of his circle and a link in his chain.
The family will receive friends on Friday, September 30, 2022 from 4-6 p.m. in The Sun Chapel at D. D. Watson, Louisa.
Funeral services will be held 11 a.m. Saturday, October 1, 2022 at Rising Sun Baptist Church 6829 Fredericks Hall Road Mineral, Virginia with Rev. Walter Pleasants, Jr., officiating. Interment will masonic rites will follow in the cemetery.
