With hearts full of love and gratitude for a life well-lived, we celebrate the homegoing of Meredith Walter Monroe , affectionately known as "Monroe." Born on September 22, 1944, in Louisa County, Virginia, Monroe grew up with strong roots, deep faith, and a love for the simple, meaningful moments of life. He departed this earthly life on Friday, October 3, 2025, at Martha Jefferson Hospital in Charlottesville, Virginia, finding rest at last in the arms of his Lord.

Monroe was educated in the Louisa County Public School system and went on to dedicate his working years to the sawmill and construction industries. His strong hands and steadfast work ethic built more than just homes and structures; they built a legacy of diligence, integrity, and devotion to family.

Outside of work, Monroe found his peace and joy beneath open skies. A true outdoorsman, he loved hunting and fishing, spending countless hours surrounded by the beauty of God's creation. Whether casting a line at dawn or tracking through the woods, Monroe found solace in the quiet rhythm of nature. He was also an avid fan of baseball and enjoyed completing sections in his puzzle book. When he wasn't outdoors, he could often be found watching his favorite cowboy western films and television shows, with Marshal Dillon being his favorite.

Monroe's life was rich in love and family. He married on January 11th, 1964.  He was the devoted husband of Melina Monroe for 61 years, and together they shared a lifetime of laughter, faith, and unwavering companionship. He was a proud father to Malinda M. Coppage (Richard K. Coppage), Sylvester M. Monroe, and Cresandra M. Thurston (Donte T. Thurston), each of whom carries his lessons of strength, patience, and kindness in their hearts.

Monroe's joy multiplied with his grandchildren: Richard L. Coppage, Quincy M. Coppage, Tanaja C. Monroe, and Javarious T. Thurston, who brought boundless pride and light to his later years. His eyes would shine whenever he spoke of them, for they were the living continuation of his love.

He leaves to cherish his memory his mother, Evelyn C. Monroe (deceased), his father, Walter M. Monroe (deceased), his sister, Vandella Johnson (deceased), and his brother, Lindwood Monroe (deceased). In addition, this includes a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, in-laws, and friends who will forever remember his steady presence, warm smile, and humor.

Monroe's life was one of quiet strength and deep devotion to his faith, his family, and the natural world he so loved. His hands built, his heart gave, and his spirit inspired. Though his chair may now sit empty, his legacy endures in every story told, every memory shared, and every life he touched.

As we say farewell, we find comfort in knowing that Monroe has traded the fields and rivers of this world for heavenly pastures, where the sun forever shines, and the fishing lines never break.

"Well done, good and faithful servant… enter into the joy of your Lord." – Matthew 25:23
