On Friday evening, April 3, 2015, at the Louisa Health and Rehabilitation Center, Louisa, VA God dispatched his darling angel from heaven and gently took the hand of our dearly loved one, devoted aunt, great aunt, great-great aunt, a caring cousin and a true friend – Mattie Mozell Henson.

"Well done thou good and faithful servant; thou has been faithful over a few things, I will make thee ruler over many things; enter thou into the joy of thy Lord.

Mattie Mozell Henson was born November 26, 1923 to the late Moten Emmett and Rosa Ella Green Henson. She was also preceded in death by four brothers, Herbert, James, Alfred and Lawrence; three sisters, Dorothy her twin (who died at birth), and Edith and Erma; Nephew, Charles; niece, Pearline, a great nephew Calvin and a sister-in-law, Alice M. Henson.

Mattie was educated in the Grove School in the Rising Sun Community and Louisa Training School. She was a domestic worker over thirty years for Judge and Mrs. Harold Purcell, Sr.
At the age of twelve she professed Christianity, accepted Jesus Christ as her personal savior, was baptized in Pump Creek in Fredericks Hall, and joined the Rising Sun Baptist Church under the pastoral leadership of the late Reverend John L. Tyler. She loved the church and was faithful in attendance and support until her health began to decline.

She was the secretary of the senior missionary, Sunday school, a Sunday school teacher, and the president of the senior choir for many years.
She truly believed that God expected us to love one another and she lived her life in service to that belief. Through all life's struggles and trials, Mattie still remained faithful to God's word. Needless to say she left an everlasting impression on everyone she met.

Mattie leaves to cherish her memories two devoted nieces, Gladys Anderson and Pauline Henson; a devoted nephew, Thomas "Pie", nephews Lawrence (Ann) and Rev. Wesley L. Henson (Barbara); great nieces, Grace, Linda, and Shelia; great-great nieces Tashena (Jayshon), Cierra, Nia, and Morgan; two devoted great nephews, Thomas "Mike" and Gerald (Doris); Great nephews Shaun, Alan, Lawrence, Charles and Lance, and other relatives and friends.

Funeral services will be held 2 p.m. Wednesday, April 8, 2015 at Rising Sun Baptist Church with Rev. Philip A. Carter officiating and Rev. Fredrick Sales eulogist. Interment will follow in the church cemetery.
