Mattie M. Grant, 92, of Hendersonville, South Carolina slipped away peacefully in the early morning of May 22, 2012 at Colleton Medical Center in Walterboro, SC.

Mattie, nicknamed "Cute" was born March 5, 1920 in Berkley County, South Carolina to the late Sonny James and Ellen Washington.

In addition to her parents, she is predeceased by her husband, Edward Grant, Sr; two sisters, Anna Bell Palmer and Minnie Carson; one daughter, Juanita Benbow; a brother, William Nash; three brothers-n-law, Romie Funches, Ed Williams and Fred Palmer;a daughter-n-law, Queen Grant and a son-n-law, Ernest Cooper, Sr.

She leaves to cherish her memories: two sons, Edward Grant, Jr of Bronx, NY and Thomas (Sheila) Grant of Randolph, MA; three daughters, Geraldine Washington of Cross, SC; Ella Cooper of Hendersonville, SC, and Roberta (D.D.) Watson of Louisa, VA; eighteen grandchildren; twenty three great-grandchildren; two sisters, Ernestine Funches of Jamacia, New York and Lucy Williams of Branchville, SC; a sister-n-law, Retha Nash of Holly Hill SC and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

Funeral services will be held 3:00 p.m. Sunday, May 27, 2012 at Grover Memorial Baptist Church,
8493 Hendersonville Highway,
Yemassee, South Carolina 29945
with Rev. James Williams officiating. Interment will follow in the church cemetery. A wake will be held from 6-8 p.m. at the church with Eastern Star Rites. Koger's Mortuary Service, 809 Jeffries Blvd, Walterboro, South Carolina is handling the arrangements.
