Mary Helen Smith departed this life on Thursday, February 8, 2007, at the University of Virginia Hospital in Charlottesville, Virginia. Mary was born September 9, 1947, to Thelma Jones. Mary joined Rising Sun Baptist Church at an early age. She was educated in the Louisa County Public Schools. She was preceded in death by her brother, Lloyd Henson. Mary is survived by her mother, Thelma Jones of Petersburg; her former husband, Matt E. Smith, Jr. of Louisa; four sons, Matt E. Smith, III of Johnson City, Tennessee, Marvin J. Smith, Maurice V. Smith and his wife, Cynthia, and Matthias T. Smith and his wife, Vonetta, all of Louisa, Virginia; a stepson, William L. Brooks of Maryland; seven grandchildren, Darius and Danya Smith of Chesterfield, Virginia, Matthew Nelson, Tyson Brandon, and Jordan Smith all of Louisa, Virginia; and Angelina Hendren of Richmond, Virginia; a sister, Della Taylor of Petersburg, Virginia; two brothers, John and Charles Henson of Louisa, Virginia; and a host of nieces, nephews, and other relatives and friends. Funeral services will be held Tuesday, 12 noon February 13, 2007, in the New Life Community Church at 509 East Main Street, Louisa, Virginia conducted by the Reverend Larry Holt, Sr. Interment will follow in the Smith Family Cemetery.
