Mary L. O'Brien, 93, of Mineral, Virginia died Saturday, November 15, 2008 at Retreat Hospital Richmond, Virginia. Mary was born on May 8, 1915 to the late Eddie Shelton and Martha Brown Shelton in Fluvanna County, Virginia. Born during a time when formal education wasn't readily available to her, Mary provided domestic services to various families in the county. During this time she met and married Frank O'Brien.

Joining New Line Baptist Church at an early age, Mary was devoted to her Christian faith and services to the Lord. As the oldest living member of New Line Baptist Church, she was a member of the Senior Choir, Missionary Ministry and the Louis and Adjacent Counties Fellowship Union. Mary was a very blunt and outspoken person. No one misunderstood the meaning of her words; most often those words were about the goodness of the Lord. Mary was preceded in death by her parents, Eddie and Martha Shelton; her husband, Frank O'Brien and 12 siblings.

Mary leaves to rejoice in her memory, six nieces, Martha Watson, Rose Watson, Lucy Anderson, Ida Robinson, Barbara Smith and Maud Shelton; one nephew, Charles Edward Smith.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, November 18, 2008 at New Line Baptist Church, 4876 New Line Road, Gum Spring, Virginia 23065 with the Rev. J. R. Coney, officiating. Interment will follow in the church cemetery.
