June 16, 1931 – December 19, 2017
Mary Virginia Thurston Lipscomb, better known as Virginia, was born to the late Alvah H. and Geneva Brown Thurston on June 16, 1931. She quietly slipped into the arms of God on December 19, 2017 at the English Meadows Assistant Living Facility of Louisa, Virginia.
Virginia joined Mt. Gilliam New Site Baptist Church at an early age and was a member of many auxiliaries during her membership. She loved singing in the choir, served as the Chairperson of the Deaconess Ministry and was also the Assistant Church Clerk.
She was educated in the Louisa County and graduated in the top half of her class from the Louisa Training School. Virginia was united in holy matrimony to the late Cornelius Lipscomb and to this union God blessed them with two sons and one daughter. Virginia loved to sew and worked as a seamstress at Woolfolk Manufacturing, Rockingham Sleepware and Louisa Manufacturing. She was also active in her community as a member of Oakland-Ellisville Homemakers, Louisa Training School Alumni Association and NAACP.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, son Cornelius Jr. brothers, Alvah (Jack) Thurston and Nathaniel Hayton and sister Rachel Sullivan.
Virginia leaves to cherish her memory; son Clarence Lee Lipscomb of North Gardens, VA, daughter Camberlena Lipscomb of Louisa , VA, brothers Mitchell A. and Clayton W. Thurston of Mineral, brother-in-law Tommie Sullivan of Fort Washington, MD, sister-in-laws Willie Ann Lipscomb of Baltimore, MD and Pauline Hayton of Washington, DC, two granddaughters Andrea R. of Fredericksburg, VA and Jennifer C. of Charlottesville, VA, one grandson Jason A. of North Gardens, VA and one great grandson Dylan A. of Fredericksburg, VA as well as a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
Funeral services will be held 1 p.m. Wednesday, December 27, 2017 at Mt. Gilliam New Site Baptist Church 2212 Mansfield Road Louisa, VA 23093 with Rev. Lewis Collins, Jr., officiating. Interment will will in the church cemetery.
Mother, you enjoyed life to a fruitful length,
We all wish we had your kind of strength;
You always gave more than you received,
We thank God your pains now have eased;
You taught us to put our faith in our Heavenly Father above.
You showed us how to do it with caring love;
You told us you were never afraid to die,
Because you knew Jesus' arms you would one day lie…
