Mary Lou Poindexter Hughes, born on April 18, 1921 in Louisa to the late Alexander Poindexter Sr. and Martha Fortune Poindexter, peacefully received her angel wings on December 20, 2019, in Woodbridge.  Her final days were surrounded by family who she loved and touched in so many ways.  She is proceeded in death by her husband, Johnnie Hughes Sr.; sons, Albert Hughes and Alonzo Lennie Hughes; siblings, Laura Collins, Elizabeth Lee, Inez Perkins, Beatrice Poindexter, Susie Quarles, Alexander Jr. Poindexter, Leo Poindexter and Joseph Poindexter; grandson, Mark Hughes Jr. and niece, Dorothy Carter.

She is survived by her loving children Johnnie Hughes Jr. and Mark Hughes Sr. (Priscilla) of Louisa, Suzette Kim Brown of Woodbridge and Sheila Brown of Alexandria; a host of grandchildren, great-grandchildren, a great-great granddaughter, nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

Funeral services will be held at 11am on Saturday, December 28, 2019 at The Sun Chapel at D.D. Watson Mortician, Inc., of Louisa.  Interment will follow at the Poindexter Family Cemetery.
