On January 23, 2016 in Hampton, Virginia, God called Marvin La Field Johnson, 73, to his new home–a mansion prepared for him. Marvin was the fourth child of Elder William H. Sr. and Louvinia O. Johnson of Mineral, Virginia, born on June 7, 1942.

He received his education in Mineral and Louisa County Public Schools, Thomas Nelson Community College and United Christian College. He took extensive classes in law enforcement and worked many years in the City of Hampton Police Department and Hampton Institute. Marvin was a 42-year veteran in security at Newport News Shipbuilding Company. He was the recipient of many varied achievements and awards including being a lifetime member of the NAACP. He was a highly respected deacon at Faith Temple Ministries, where he also participated in other church ministries.

Marvin leaves to honor and cherish his memories, his devoted wife of 53 years, Dr. Loretta C. Johnson; two daughters, LaKarla Lindsay and Kimberly Murchison (Henry); two granddaughters, Allison Lindsay and Miracle Murchison; three brothers, Alfred W. Johnson (Lisa); Charles E. A. Johnson (Mary), Calvin E. Johnson (Mary); one sister, Frances M. Lindsay; and his sisters-in-law, Lucille Johnson and Patricia Latham (Wilbert). He also leaves three nieces and five nephews.
He is predeceased by his parents, Elder William Sr. and Louvinia Johnson; his brother, Dr. William H. Johnson II; a brother-in-law, Robert Lindsay; and a nephew, Anthony Johnson.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, January 30, 2016 at Faith Temple Ministries, 476 Wellons Street Suffolk, Virginia 23434.

Interment will take place at 11 a.m. on Monday, February 1, 2016 at True Apostolic Church of Christ Church Cemetery 6631 Fredericks Hall Road, Mineral, Virginia.
