Martha Jane Griggs was born in Charlottesville, VA on April 22, 1938 to Harvey & Althea Thompson. She departed this life Saturday, May 10, 2014 surrounded by her love ones.
She was born and raised in Louisa, VA and graduated from A.G. Richardson High School in 1956. Martha was baptized at the age of nine at Morning Bright Baptist Church, then she rededicated her life to The Lord and was baptized at Refuge Church of our Lord Jesus Christ. She truly loved The Lord. Martha left Virginia and moved to Scotch Plains, New Jersey where she resided for thirty nine years. She was employed with the State of New Jersey until 1995, at which time she retired and returned to Virginia in 1995.
Preceded in death by Harvey & Althea Thompson, one sister Mary E. Thompson, one brother Ernest M. Thompson and daughter, Tijuana Louise Franklin.
She leave to cherish her memory one son, Byron Trice (Norma); two daughters, Vanessa D. Thompson and Tamesa K. Griggs, all of Louisa, Virginia. Eight grandchildren, Lashanda Davis (Jason), Marquita Culmer (Laron) Terrell Thompson (Kristi), Marnae Griggs, Anthony Franklin, Aaron Franklin, Jasmine Griggs and Artivia Franklin. Five great-grandchildren, Jayden, Jordan, Carmen, Brooklyn and Amiyah. One brother who is her twin, Mortimer D. Thompson (Mozell), one sister-in-law, Sarah Thompson. And a host of cousins, nieces and nephews. Two devoted friends Alberta Thompson and Mildred Seaberry.
Visitation will be held from noon to 6pm and the family will receive friends from 6pm to 8pm.
Home going services will be held at 2 p.m. on Wednesday, May 14, 2014 conducted by Minister Howard Jackson at Wayland Baptist Church on Oakland Rd, Louisa, VA. Interment will follow in the church cemetery.
